Retroactive to the 2013 catalog year, Liberty University offers military academic benefits to both online and residential undergraduate degree seeking students. In addition to the previously established military academic benefits for LU Online undergraduate military students, which include the following:
- PHIL 201 is not required
- General Education Elective is not required
- In an Associate's Degree, only 2 of the 3 religion courses are required (BIBL 104, APOL 104, THEO 104).
- In the B.S. in Religion, students will only be required to take 4 of the 5 Religion courses under the General Education requirements (BIBL 105, BIBL 110, THEO 201, THEO 202, and CRST 290).
- Military students are only required to take one course in the major through Liberty University Online.
- Academic residency limited to no more than twenty-five percent of the degree requirements
- No final year or final semester residency requirement
Residential undergraduate military students receive the military academic benefits that include the following:
- 4 out of the 5 following courses are required in “Christian Life and Thought”: BIBL 105, BIBL 110, THEO 201, THEO 202, CRST 290
- PHIL 201 is not required
- General Education Elective is not required
- Military students are only required to take one course in the major through Liberty University.
- Academic residency limited to no more than twenty-five percent of the degree requirements
- No final year or final semester residency requirement
Policy Rationale
According to the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges approval letter, Liberty University was approved to switch from membership just with LU Online to Liberty University - a full SOC Consortium member.
