To provide an opportunity for students to receive credit for focused independent research, and to ensure that students understand the expectation set forth by the University when seeking permission to complete an Independent Study in a major field or related discipline.

UNDERGRADUATE:

This option is limited to graduating seniors, students who have changed majors and have no other course of action, and students who may have approved extenuating circumstances. Permission for the independent study will be granted only upon approval by the Department Chair, the Dean of the School, the Administrative Dean, and the Registrar. Forms are available in the Registrar’s Office and on the Registrar’s webpage.

GRADUATE:

Permission for the Independent Study or Directed Research will be granted only upon approval by the Department Chair/Program Director, the Dean of the School, the Administrative Dean, and the Associate Registrar for Graduate Studies. Forms are available online at http://www.liberty.edu/academics/registrar/index.cfm?PID=4849 or in the Registrar’s Office.
