Faculty Continuing Education Policy
Office of the Provost
All offices offering continuing education courses.
Any office engaging in offering continuing education courses will be first vetted by the Center for Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), then approved by the Provost, and will operate in coordination with CPCE. CPCE (1) will ensure programs support the University mission and (2) will provide expected outcome findings annually.
LU’s Continuing Education (CE) policy (1) defines LU’s CE approval process, (2) provides the efficiency of central CE coordination while permitting departments to retain administrative and fiscal control of their CE programs, and (3) supports University adherence to SACS 3.4.2, which requires all CE be consistent with the University mission.
Definition of Glossary Terms
Continuing Education: Quality approved programming, consistent with the University Mission, developed and maintained to provide professional development and personal enrichment that meets business, community, or individual needs.
Faculty: All residential and online (distance education), full-time and part-time, teaching and administrative faculty
LU’s Center for Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE) manages two procedures associated with LU’s Continuing Education policy. The first procedure is a formal application and approval process vetting new or modified continuing education offerings through CPCE to the Provost, and the second is an annual survey across LU to collect information about existing CE activities and their results to support reporting and leadership decisions.
Noncompliance issues may arise due to lack of policy knowledge. The CPCE Director will attempt to resolve all noncompliance issues at the lowest practical level. Failing resolution, the CASAS Dean will engage at higher levels. In the unlikely event issues remain, the CASAS Dean will elevate to the Provost for adjudication.
